Step and Repeat Banners have become very popular for special events. They are being used for media press conferences, fashion shows, golf tournaments, red carpets and private parties.
What is a Step and Repeat Banner?
A step and repeat banner, also called a media wall is a large banner that displays logos in a repeated pattern. They are mostly used for photo opportunities at events or to create a backdrop for a media press conference. Companies can choose to repeat their own logo throughout the entire banner or recognize major sponsors using their logos. It is also very common to alternate between logos throughout the banner.
Common sizes and materials for Step and Repeat Banners.
The most common size for a Step and Repeat banner is 8′ x 8′. Other popular sizes are 8′ x 10′ or 8′ x 12′. Step and Repeat Banners can be printed on many different substrates such as paper, vinyl, mesh, canvas or fabric. I recommend fabric to avoid glare and save money. Most Step and Repeat banners are used for photo shoots or media conferences which usually have bright lights pointing at them, as well as, camera flashes, so you want to avoid a glossy surface. If you are planning on using fabric, find an opaque material like a poly twill that diffuses light to avoid seeing through the banner. Paper can also be used, 7pt Matte Photo base is a short term, economical choice. Mesh is a popular material for outdoor events.
Step and Repeat Stand Options
There are a variety of banner stands available for Step and Repeat Banners. The two most popular stands are the Adjustable Frame Stand and the Pop Out Frame. Adjustable Frames can telescope to the exact size to fit your Step and Repeat banner. The poles telescope both vertically and horizontally to offer a full range of options to display your image. They are light weight and durable. This convenient system allows you to easily change out your graphics. The adjustable pole stand is the most economical and the price varies hugely from vendor to vendor. Not sure why, but make sure your stand is sturdy and plan on spending around $250 – $300.00 for a good stand. Most stands are available in silver or black and have a pole at the top and bottom to adhere your banner to. The best way to provide a taut banner is to use 2-3″ pole pockets. Some people prefer grommets at the top and bottom and secure the banner to the frame with zip ties or rope.
My favorite Step and Repeat banner hardware is the portable back wall display. It is one of the easiest and quickest graphic exhibit frames on the market. The aluminum stand is delivered with your fabric banner mounted to the frame. Just open the unit and snap the closures together, your banner will be displayed quickly and always looks professional. Although, this option is the most expensive and could cost up to $1700, it is definitely the choice when you plan to use your Step and Repeat Banner frequently. It is also convenient and easy to change out the graphic on site.
Remember when you are planning your next event, think about a Step and Repeat banner. It is a great way to highlight your business, company logo or special sponsors. It provides a fun activity for your guests, everyone feels special taking pictures in front of a media wall. It is perfect for red carpet events, media press conferences, trade show booths or sports backdrops.
The following example is a Portable Pop Up Backwall. The first Pop Up Back Wall we ever produced at The Graphic Edge, used successfully for two years by the North Texas Superbowl XLV Host Committee. I wonder where that banner is now???
